Cheese danishes have a buttery shell and a creamy filling. Using store-bought puff pastry makes this variation easier!
INGREDIENTS
FOR THE PASTRIES:– 8 ounces (226g) cream cheese, softened– 1/3 cup (67g) granulated sugar– 1 large egg, separated– 1 teaspoon lemon juice– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract– 1 (17.3 ounce/490g) package puff pastry sheetFOR THE GLAZE:– 3/4 cup (83g) confectioners’ sugar– 1-2 tablespoons milk or heavy cream– 1/4 teaspoon vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract
TO MAKE PASTRIES:
Preheat oven to 400°F. Prepare two baking sheets with parchment or silicone liners.
Step 1
INSTRUCTIONS
Beat cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, lemon juice, and vanilla until smooth using a medium-speed electric mixer.
Step 2
Roll one puff pastry sheet into a 10-inch square. Cutting into 9 squares.
Step 3
Put the squares in the pan. Leave a 1-1/2-inch border around the pastry after forking. Use a fork to lightly poke holes. Coat each pastry with egg white.
Step 4
Put a tablespoon of cream cheese on each square. Place it in the center; it will spread during baking.
Step 5
Bake pastries for 12–16 minutes until gently browned. Cool pans on wire racks. Serve warm or room temperature.
Step 6
MAKE GLAZE:
Mix confectioners' sugar, 1 tablespoon milk/cream, and vanilla. Small amounts of milk or cream are added until the glaze is thick but pourable.
