Easy Homemade Croutons Recipe

The finest salad topping is homemade croutons! Use the right breads, season them, and make them crispy.


– 4 cups cubed good bread such as sourdough, focaccia, or a baguette (see notes) – 4 tablespoons olive oil – ½ teaspoon fine sea salt – ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper – ½ teaspoon garlic powder – ½ teaspoon onion powder Other optional spices: – Chili powder – Smoked paprika – Cumin – Dried Italian herb – Parmesan cheese


Bake at 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the bread in a bowl that is somewhat large. 

Step 1

After adding the olive oil and the spices, toss the bread until it is evenly coated with the mixture.

Step 2

Spread the bread out in an equal layer on a baking sheet with a rim. Roast them in the oven for ten to twenty minutes, turning them over once every five minutes.  

Step 3

they are golden brown and crisp around the edges, but still slightly tender in the centre. Take note that the croutons will become more crisp as they continue to cool.
