Apple turnovers are a delicious combination of apple flavor and flaky pastry. These turnovers fulfill your sweet tooth or breakfast pastry cravings.
INGREDIENTS
– 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter– 1/4 cup brown sugar– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon– 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg– 1 tablespoon lemon juice– 1 package (17.3 ounces) frozen puff pastry, thawed– 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)– Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
Prepare the Filling:- Butter melts in a pot over medium heat. Add diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice to the saucepan.
Step 1
Cook apples for 8–10 minutes, stirring periodically, until soft and caramelized. Stop cooking and cool.
Step 2
Preheat the Oven:- Heat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Prevent sticking by parchmenting or gently greasing a baking sheet.
Step 3
Prepare the Pastry:- Roll the thawed puff pastry to 1/8-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry into squares or rectangles with a knife or pizza cutter, depending on turnover size.
Step 4
Assemble the Turnovers:- Spread a little of the cooked apple filling on half of each pastry square or rectangle, leaving a border. Fold the crust over the filling to form a triangle or rectangle, depending on its shape. Secure the edges with a fork.
Step 5
Bake the Turnovers:- Arrange the turnovers on the baking sheet. Brush beaten egg wash on turnover tops. Turnovers should be golden brown and puffy after 18–20 minutes in the preheated oven.
Step 6
Serve:- Cool the turnovers before serving. Sprinkle powdered sugar on turnovers for added sweetness. Delicious warm or room-temperature treat any time of day!
