Delicious Fried Mac and Cheese Easiest Recipe Ever

Gooey, creamy, and crispy Fried Mac and Cheese is fun, savoury, and easy. A great game-time snack or appetiser for any occasion.  


For the mac and cheese: – ½ pound elbow macaroni cooked al dente and drained – 3 tablespoons unsalted butter – 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour – 1 tablespoon mustard powder – 1 teaspoon kosher salt – ½ teaspoon garlic powder – ½ teaspoon onion powder – ¼ teaspoon black pepper – 3 cups whole milk – 1 large egg – 16 ounces shredded sharp cheddar cheese For the coating: – 2 large eggs beaten – 2 cups panko breadcrumb – 1 teaspoon garlic powder – 1 teaspoon onion powder – ½ teaspoon black pepper – Peanut oil for frying – Ranch dressing for dipping optional


In a dutch oven, melt butter on medium. Stir in flour, mustard powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper for 30 seconds. 

Step 1

Avoid clumping by progressively adding milk while stirring. Simmer 3 minutes, whisking often. Egg tempering after heat removal. Add ¾ cheese and mix until melted. 

Step 2

Add cooked spaghetti. Pour into a greased 9x13 pan. Top with remaining cheese. Bake 30 minutes until top cheese melts and bubbles. Finish countertop cooling.  

Step 3

Refrigerate 6 hours or overnight. Roll 1 ½ tablespoons of mac and cheese into balls. Used a cookie scoop. Put parchment on a sheet tray. Freeze for 30 minutes.  

Step 4

In a dutch oven, heat 3-4 inches of peanut oil to 350°F while the mac and cheese balls freeze. Add eggs to a small bowl. Mix panko, garlic, onion, and black pepper in a medium bowl.  

Step 5

Drip extra egg from one mac and cheese ball at a time. Gently press breadcrumbs into the ball to stick. Revert to parchment-lined sheet tray. Use remaining ingredients.  

Step 6

Immerse 4-5 balls in boiling oil. A metal slotted spoon dips them in oil. Stir gently for 3–4 minutes till dark golden brown to avoid scalding the bottom.  

Step 7

A paper-towel-lined plate on a wire rack atop a sheet tray drains oil from fried macaroni and cheese balls. They remain fresh. A170°F oven heats them. Reuse mac and cheese. Ranch-dress.
