Delicious Croque Monsieur Easiest Recipe Ever

This Croque Monsieur Sandwich with béchamel sauce, meat, cheese, and more is perfect for lunch or dinner. A hearty meal you'll make again.  


For the bechamel: – 4 tablespoons salted butter – 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour – 1 cup milk – ½ cup heavy cream – 1 teaspoon dijon mustard – ½ teaspoon black pepper – Pinch ground nutmeg For the sandwiches: – 8 slices white bread – 4 ounces smoked deli ham thinly sliced – 8 teaspoons dijon mustard – 8 ounces shredded Gruyere cheese – 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese


Warm the oven up to 400°F. Put parchment paper on a sheet tray and set it aside. First, make the bechamel. Melt the butter in a small pot over medium heat.  

Step 1

Add the flour and cook for one minute after the butter melts. Add the milk slowly while mixing all the time to avoid lumps. Add the heavy cream again, and mix it in again.

It should be smooth. Mix the Dijon, pepper, and nutmeg in with a spoon. Keep whisking the mixture as you cook it for up to 5 minutes,

or until it gets very thick and spreadable and no longer runs. Turn off the heat. Put the bread slices on the sheet tray that has been made.  

Step 4

After two minutes, turn the bread over and toast it for another two minutes. Spread four slices of bread with half of the sauce.  

Step 5

Put the ham on top, and then spread the mustard on top of that. Put in half of the gruyere cheese first, then half of the parmesan cheese.  

Step 6

Add the last few slices of bread on top. Spread the rest of the sauce over the top. Put in the rest of the Gruyere and then the Parmesan.

Step 7

Let it melt in the oven for 10 minutes. Turn on the grill and broil until the cheese on top is golden brown or as toasty as you like it. Serve right away.
