Enjoy the comforting aroma of cinnamon-spiced apples and buttery cake in this delicacy. With sweet-tart apples, the upside-down cake becomes a delicious treat for every occasion.

For the topping: – 3-4 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced – 1/4 cup (55g) unsalted butter – 1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar – 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon For the cake: – 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour – 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder – 1/2 teaspoon salt – 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened – 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar – 2 large egg – 1 teaspoon vanilla extract – 1/2 cup (120ml) milk

Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and reserve a 9-inch round cake pan. Melt 1/4 cup butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir brown sugar and ground cinnamon until dissolved and smooth and bubbly.

Step 1

Spread the butter and sugar mixture equally in the cake pan. Simply put sliced apples on the butter-sugar mixture. Set aside. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.

Step 2

Cream melted butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl until frothy. Beat each egg carefully after adding it. Mix in vanilla extract.

Step 3

Starting and finishing with the flour combination, gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet components, alternating with the milk. Avoid overmixing and mix just enough.

Step 4

Use a spatula to evenly distribute the batter over the apples in the cake pan. Bake the cake for 40–45 minutes in the preheated oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 5

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes after baking. Place an upside-down serving plate on the cake pan after cooling. Use oven mitts to delicately invert the cake onto the platter, making the apple topping the bottom.

Step 6

Serve warm Apple Upside Down Cake alone or with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Each piece tastes like caramelized apples and velvety cake!
